Top 5 things not to do after a paint job

So you’ve just had a couple of panels repaired to make your car whole again. Here’s our top 5 Don’ts

1. Do not use automatic car washes with brushes and especially don’t use the self service car wash with the foam brushes. The automatic washes with brushes put fine scratches in the paint that over time dull the paint and make the car look very tired. They reduce the gloss level of the paint. A good cut and polish can ordinarily sort this out however there are ways to keep this from happening. A good laser (brushless automatic wash) is a good idea or a good hand car wash is the best.

2. Don’t leap before you look! Most small damage is done when parking or manoeuvring. If you aren’t 100% sure there’s nothing in your way, just hop out and have a quick look. Mailboxes, low walls and high kerbs are among the top offenders in our line of work.

3. Don’t drive when you are feeling angry or stressed. The likelihood of you doing some accidental damage to your car when you are running rich on emotion is much greater than when you are calm.

4. Don’t squeeze into tight parking spots next to other cars. Particularly ones with cars with child seats. Kids can be very careless whilst opening their doors. Parking dings are easily repaired but still a nuisance.

5. Don’t allow the car to go unwashed. A well maintained paint will last for decades. If you neglect your paint and don’t wash it regularly you will have a very hard time when you do eventually fancy giving it a wash. Baked on bugs, bird poop eating into the paint and dirt actually scratches your car too as it moves around over the panels. Depending on the miles you cover we recommend washing the car once a week on average.
